Washington Post’s Swimming and Diving All-Met Teams

At the end of each Fall, Winter and Spring season, The Washington Post compiles a list of the top high school athletes in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area for the sports played in that season. For example, the top football, field hockey and volleyball players in high school are included in the Fall All-Met list, the top swimming/diving, basketball and ice hockey players are included in the Winter All-Met list, and the top baseball, softball and lacrosse players are included in the Spring All-Met list.
The Washington Post has selected its 2015-16 Winter All-Met Girls’ Swimming and Diving Team and Boys’ Swimming and Diving Team. Check it out. Note that swimmers and divers are listed together, and inclusion on the list is based on their performance at the high school level (i.e., not at the club level).
The All-Met list for swimming/diving names one outstanding male and female athlete as the swimmer (or diver) of the year, a first team, a second team, relay teams and honorable mentions. On the boys’ side, after swimmers Andrew Seliskar (University of California at Berkeley / Thomas Jefferson) and Jack Conger (University of Texas at Austin / Our Lady of Good Counsel) dominated the male swimming / diving athlete of the year award since the 2011-10 season, The Washington Post selected diver Grayson Campbell (Madison / pledged to University of Texas at Austin) as this year’s awardee.
For the girls, Kylie Jordan (Madeira / pledged to Duke University) was selected as this year’s female swimmer of the year after Katie Ledecky (Stanford University / Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) dominated the award since the 2012-13 season.
The female first team All-Met swimmers/divers include Hannah Baker (Robinson), Cassidy Bayer (West Potomac), Megan Byrnes (Oakton), Jacquee Clabeaux (Chantilly), Suzanne Dolan (Yorktown), Jasmine Hellmer (Flint Hill), Morgan Hill (Sherwood), Holly Jansen (West Potomac), Madeline Kline (Damascus) and Hannah Lindsey (Churchill).
The male first team All-Met swimmers/divers includes Jase Ashkin (Gonzaga), Aaron Boyd (Annandale), James Jones (Robinson), James Murphy (Robinson), Sam Pomajevich (Stonewall Jackson), Simon Shi (Tuscarora), Lane Stone (West Springfield), Casey Storch (Langley), Sam Tarter (Georgetown Prep) and Dorje Wu (McLean).
Josh Klotz (Gonzaga) and Brendan Lees (Sherwood) were named coaches of the year.
Congratulations to all of the swimmers, divers and coaches named in this year’s All-Met list. And, keep your eyes on these athletes in the future because, as our article on the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships demonstrates, many of these athletes will soon show up on the sport’s biggest stages, just as prior All-Mets (e.g., Ledecky, Conger, Seliskar, Sarah Haase, Janet Hu, etc.) already have.
