Key Info:

Recap of Day 4

Katie Ledecky (NCAP / Stanford (deferred) / Stone Ridge / MCSL’s Palisades) finished 1st in the finals of the women’s 200m freestyle, thereby qualifying for a 2nd individual event in the Rio Olympics (she’s already qualified in women’s 400m free) as well as the 4 x 200 free relay.

Jack Conger (Univ. of Texas / NCAP / Our Lady of Good Counsel / MCSL’s Flower Valley) placed 3rd in the finals of the men’s 200m butterfly, and Andrew Seliskar (NCAP / University of California at Berkeley / Thomas Jefferson / NVSL’s McLean) finished 8th in the same race.  Consequently, neither will be able to swim this event at the Rio Olympics.

16 year old Cassidy Bayer (NCAP / West Potomac / NVSL‘s Mount Vernon Park) finished 3rd in the semifinals of the women’s 200m butterfly, thereby winning a lane in Thursday night’s finals and a good chance to make the U.S. Olympic team in the event.

Recap of Day 5

Cassidy Bayer placed 3rd in the finals of the women’s 200m butterfly, just missing one of the spots on the U.S. Olympic team in this event.  Bayer was leading the field at the 50-meter mark, fell to 4th at the 150-meter mark, and while she made up lost ground in the final 50 meters, she ran out of pool space at the end.

Katie Ledecky finished 7th in the semifinals of the women’s 100m free, thereby winning one of the 8 spots in the finals on Thursday night.  In the 100m free, Ledecky will be looking to qualify for her 4th event in the Rio Olympics (i.e., she’s already qualified in 400 free, 200 free and 4 x 200 free relay).

Andrew Seliskar came in 8th in the semifinals of the men’s 200m IM, earning himself the last spot in the finals on Thursday night alongside Ryan Lochte (who finished 1st in the semifinals) and Michael Phelps (who finished 2nd).  Brandon Fiala (Virginia Tech / Machine Aquatics / Westfield High School / NVSL’s Sully Station) finished 16th in the same event behind Seliskar, so Fiala will be cheering his fellow Virginian from the stands on Thursday night.
