NCAP Captures USA Swimming Winter National Title

In a prior post, we highlighted the swimmers from PVS competing in the USA Swimming’s 2016 Winter Nationals Championships (Nov. 30 – Dec 3). The results are in, and Nation’s Capital Swim Club captured the club team title! For easy reference, we created a webpage on our site showing the results of PVS teams and swimmers at this meet.
This year’s Winter National Championship meet had a strong contingent of collegiate and upstart club athletes in attendance. Many of the USA National Team members did not attend due to the FINA World Short Course Championships being held Dec 6-11th in Windsor, Canada. Nonetheless, over 15 Universities and 30 USA swimming club teams were represented, with a lot of fast swimming! Many of the collegiate swimmers took the opportunity to go after their NCAA ‘A’ qualifying times and the club teams battled for the team title. Nation’s Capital fielded 15 swimmers, amassing 208 points in the Men’s events and 190 points in the Women’s, both tops of the gender scoring. Their 398 total points was enough to outdistance Dynamo Swim Club (from the host state of Georgia) for the overall club title. The highest point scorer for NCAP was Sam Pomajevich, who tallied 53 individual points, tying for 4th on the Men’s side with Olympian Tom Shields. Other PVS men earning individual points include Will Cumberland (NCAP, 8 pts.) and Timothy Wu (NCAP, 5pts.). The following Women also swam in either the ‘A’ or ‘B’ final, earning points for their clubs: Sinead Eksteen (NCAP, 16pts); Katie Mack (NCAP 14 pts); Abigail Harter (NCAP 10 pts); Sydney Fisher (George Mason, 9pts.); Jaycee Yegher (RMSC, 2pts.); and Madison Waechter (RMSC, 2pts.).
