US Nationals – Day 2

By Reach for the Wall Staff.

Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, MD / Stanford University / Stoneridge) won the Women’s 200m Freestyle on the second night of the 2017 US National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.  With the victory, Ledecky now has qualified for 2 events (200m and 800m Freestyle) at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

After punching his ticket to Budapest in the Men’s 200m Butterfly, Jack Conger (Rockville, Md / Univ. of Texas at Austin / Our Lady of Good Counsel ) finished 16th in the Men’s 200m Freestyle, so he has not (yet) qualified to swim a second event at the World Championships.  But, Jack is seeded 1st in Thursday’s final for the Men’s 100 Fly, so there he can qualify for his 2nd event in Budapest.

Hellen Moffitt (Alexandria, Va / Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill / West Potomac High) finished 2nd in the Women’s 50 Butterfly in Indianapolis.  Although women’s 50 Fly is an official event at the 2017 World Championships, the U.S. National Team generally does not accept 2nd place finishers in 50 meter events (except freestyle).  But, Hellen is seeded 2nd in Thursday’s final for the Women’s 100 Fly, so if she touches 1st or 2nd in that event, she qualifies for Budapest.
