MCSL 2018 All Star Wrap up

By: Reach for the Wall Staff

Sunday July 29, wrapped up the final day of the 2018 MCSL season. In the individual All Star events, many competitors were decked out in their fastskins, showing that the kids in the MCSL come to championship meets ready to swim fast.  For fun, we decided to score the meet using a typical scoring system you would see in a PVS Championship meet:

Individual events (places 1-16): 20, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

The top 10 teams are as follows:

Individual:

  1. Stonegate: 386
  2. Wildwood Manor: 248
  3. Tilden Woods: 233
  4. Woodley Gardens:210
  5. Woodcliffe:188
  6. Rockville:186
  7. Glenmont:175
  8. Bethesda:171
  9. Robin Hood:168
  10. Quince Orchard:160

The relay meet was competed in two sessions- Section 1 (Divisions A-H) and Section 2 (Divisions I-O), we combined the results from Section 1 and Section 2, so the point distribution is for the fastest 8 relays (places 1-8): 18, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2

Relay:

  1. Stonegate: 150
  2. Rockville: 92
  3. Wildwood Manor: 70
  4. Potomac: 64
  5. Stonebridge: 60
  6. Quince Orchard: 56
  7. Woodley Gardens: 54
  8. Damascus: 52
  9. Forest Knolls: 50
  10. Glenmont: 46

The following is how teams would fare if the points from both Individual and Relay meets were combined:

Combined:

  1. Stonegate: 536
  2. Wildwood Manor: 318
  3. Rockville: 278
  4. Tilden Woods: 269
  5. Woodley Gardens: 264
  6. Woodcliffe: 224
  7. Glenmont: 221
  8. Quince Orchard: 216
  9. Stonebridge: 205
  10. Robin Hood: 204

Keep in mind that MCSL does NOT score these meets, we just wanted to see how things would play out if they did.  It’s also important to note that a lot of top swimmers opt out of this meet –  many 14 an older swimmers are in the middle of a taper for some of the National championship meets, while others may have missed due to family vacations.

The teams and divisions were all well represented at All-Stars this year, with 79 of the 90 teams  having a swimmer or relay compete over the weekend!  We want to recognize teams that had 15 or more individual races (if a swimmer swam two events that would be counted as two races).  They are as follows:

  1. Stonegate: 32
  2. Rockville: 29
  3. Wildwood Manor: 22
  4. Tilden Woods: 21
  5. Connecticut Belair: 18
  6. Woodcliffe: 18
  7. Woodley Gardens: 18
  8. Glenmont: 17
  9. Country Glen: 16
  10. Tally Ho: 16
  11. Stonebridge: 16
  12. Mohican: 16
  13. Regency Estates: 15
  14. Forest Knolls: 15
  15. Bethesda: 15

Phoebe Bacon wasn’t at this year’s Individual All-Star meet. She was at Nationals in Irvine.
