MCPS Top Times: 1/19

Coming off the week where Monday’s routine was interrupted with the remnants of the snowstorm and this being a three-day weekend, may have taken a toll on the overall performances. There were only 10 new entries in the top 10 from the girls and 15 from the boys. That said, the closest meet from the weekend was between the Churchill and Richard Montgomery Boys, which was won by Churchill by a mere 15 points. Not surprisingly, 11 of the 15 new times came out of this meet. Notably the 50 freestyle race between Steven Mendley, Churchill (winning in 21.46) and Chris Ma, Richard Montgomery (2nd in 21.73) are now the top two times in the county. In that same race, Andrew Eliason, Richard Montgomery also jumped up the list to 7th with his time of 22.43. The other race that impacted the top times list was the 200 free between Connor Din, Pierre Zeineddin, both Richard Montgomery and Ziad Bandak, Churchill. Connor and Pierre went 1-2 in the race, also posting the top two times in the county (1:43.77, 1:45.57) and Ziad took third. Ziad previously held the top time at 1:45.80. Chris Ma and Pierre then went on to finish 1-2 in the 100 butterfly, Chris matching his time of 50.94 (2nd in the county) and Pierre going 51.77 good for 4th best in the county.

Like their male counterparts, the girls from Richard Montgomery and Churchill also stepped it up for their meet, tallying 4 of new entries in the top 10 this week. Katherine Blake, Richard Montgomery won the girls 200 IM and 100 fly with a 58.67, which is currently 2nd best in the county. Sophia Wang also from Richard Montgomery placed 3rd in the butterfly, improving her time to a 1:00.63, good for 10th and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.44, putting her 6th best in the county. Maya Fischer, Churchill won the 50 (25.06) and 100 free (54.90), the 100 time is currently 5th fastest in the county. The Sherwood girls also had a good weekend in their win over Wootton, as Emma Eustace won the 50 free, improving her time to 24.81 (5th best in the county), and Amanda Wenhold won the 200 IM and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.40, 9th best in the county). While Sophia Ryan didn’t improve on her best times/standings, she was a double winner with victories in the 200 free and 100 backstroke.

As the dual meet season is coming to an end and championship meet begin, we will start to see results from the other leagues in the DMV and post some consolidated ‘best time’ lists. So far, we’ve been able to locate one other league that’s tracked their swimmers throughout the dual season- Loudoun County, Virginia: Boys Times and Girls Times. Take a look to see how they’ve been swimming. We’re looking forward to February and seeing both the relay (see listing below) and individual swimmers crank up the speed as they strive to capture the podium!
