Things are heating up with summer league swimming!

The 3rd week of competition has passed for the Northern Virginia (NVSL) and Montgomery County (MCSL) Leagues and the battle for division leads has taken shape. As noted last week there were many key matchups in both leagues to determine who has a good shot at division supremacy over the last two meets. One of the facets of the NVSL is throughout the season several teams/divisions may compete in Yards pools, giving the swimmers a shot at breaking some of the long-standing league records. This summer Kent Gardens has hosted a few meets and in each a record was broken. On June 19th, Sophie Fredericks (Kent Gardens) and Darby Galbraith (Villa Aquatic) both broke 50-backstroke records, Sophie in the 13-14 age group & Darby in the 15-18 age group.

June 26th, the Girls 200 Medley relay team from Oakton set a new record:

This past weekend, Sophia Scadron from Sideburn Run added her name to the record board in the Girls 50 Butterfly:

On to the meet results NVSL, recapping the key matchups from last week:

Division 1: Chesterbrook vs. Tuckahoe, Tuckahoe escaped with a 27 point win to remain undefeated along with Overlee. July 10th, Tuckahoe & Overlee will determine the remaining undefeated team in Division 1.
Division 2: Langley defeated Crosspointe by 10 points and remains undefeated. With dual meets against Mount Vernon Park and Hamlet ahead, it looks good for Langley to remain unscathed.
Division 8: Dunn Loring has amassed more dual meet points than Dominion Hills, but both came out of the weekend 3-0. They go head-to-head this weekend & according to the Virtual Meet predictor, it will be a close one!
Division 10: Springboard cruised against Camelot and sits atop the division at 3-0. Their last big test will be against Rutherford this weekend, before they finish the season against the winless Fox Mill Estates
Division 11: Canterbury easily surpassed Highland Park in their meet, and with the next two meets against 1-win teams, looks to close out the season undefeated.
Division 12: Rolling Hills beat Holmes Run Acres by 46 and in a bit of an upset, Truro took down Rolling Forest by 30, leaving Rolling Hills as the only undefeated team in the division. Rolling Forest and Rolling Hills collide this weekend, we’ll see if Rolling Forest can stay in the hunt with a win?
Division 14: Poplar Tree remained undefeated with standout swims from the Farello & Radcliffe families and defeated Fox Hunt by 18 points. Poplar Tree will face two 1- win teams to close out their dual meets & vie for an undefeated season.
Division 15: Parklawn was not a gracious host to Hollin Hills and defeated them soundly to remain undefeated. Herndon and Ilda Community are next for Parklawn and it looks good for them to stay on top.
Division 17: Broyhill Crest and Village West both came out victorious this weekend, and will have a head-to-head matchup July 17th for the division title!

Other Meets to watch:
Division 6: Virginia Hills and Lee Graham, both undefeated will swim for the division lead
Division 9: Little Hunting Park and South Run are on course to meet up as undefeated in week 5…if they both win this weekend
Division 16: Lincolnia Park and Commonwealth will decide who remains undefeated this weekend!

NVSL held their division relay meets Wednesday night, and at the time of this writing, not all results were available, but many of the division leaders prevailed. You can follow the updates in the Standings section of the NVSL website

MCSL:

To coin a golf phrase, Saturday was ‘moving day’ for some of the swimmers at or near the top of the leaderboard in their individual events to get themselves into a top-8 position for the annual Coach’s Invitational Long Course Meet. Roughly 40% of the top 8 times across all the events were achieved during the July 3 weekend, and the top time being achieved in 15 out of 46 individual events! The league announced the seeding for the Long Couse Meet and will update their site with psych sheets leading up to the meet on July 13.

Key matchups recap:
Division C: Clarksburg Village edged Woodley Gardens by 13 to remain undefeated atop the division. Next week they face Old Georgetown for the chance to remain unbeaten, then finish up with Franklin Knolls which hasn’t notched a dual meet victory.
Division D: River Falls and Kentlands got their wins in week 3 and will face each other for the top spot in the division, the Kentlands will surely be rocking as these two go at it on Saturday.
Division G: Little Falls soundly beat Forest Knolls by 40 points to remain to unbeaten, and will face the 1-wil Manor Woods this weekend.
Division H: Seven Locks bested Manchester Farm by a mere 9 pts to rise to the top spot in the division. They are likely to win out as they face 1-win Lakelands this weekend and Clopper Mill Kingsview (another 1-win team) to close out the dual meet season.
Division I: Rockshire and Calverton had a spirited affair, with the Chargers taking the final tally 405.5 to 378.5. Coach Tony Murray and Calverton face Daleview this weekend. Fun Fact…Tony Murray has been with Calverton since 1981 as a swimmer/assistant coach and since 2000 as the head coach, amassing 44 wins in 21 years at the helm (top 10 in wins of all MCSL coaches who stayed with the same team).

Other Meets to watch:
Division E: The dual meet season title is up for grabs with 4 teams at 2 wins. ‘On paper’, Potomac has the best shot to take the title as they face Germantown this weekend (1-win), then Palisades next weekend (0 wins).
Division F: Darnestown and Mohican come into the weekend 3-0, whoever is victorious, will likely take the title!
Division J: The week 4 matchup between Tanterra and Somerset will determine the lone undefeated in the division. Neither team has had a very close meet this season, both winning their weekly matchups by 20 + points, this should be a fun meet to experience.
Division M: If Fallsmead upsets division leader Waters Landing, and Hillandale gets the win against Long Branch, there could be a 3 way tie for 1st at the end of the weekend!

Prince William:

This weekend the PWSL decided to forgo dual meet competition in lieu of their annual Stars and Stripes Invitational, we will have a follow-up post once the results are available.

Prince Mont:

No meets were held this past weekend- competition will continue this weekend with a full slate of meets across the divisions.
