Day 3: Eastern Zones for 10 & Unders

ROCHESTER – The 2016 Eastern Zone Short Course Age Group Championships (Zones) completed competition on Saturday (March 26, 2016) at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, New York.
On the last day, the 10 and under swimmers on the Potomac Valley (PVS) team finished with some strong performances. Of the six individual events swum on Saturday, they placed all three PVS entrants on the podium (top ten finishers) in two of them. And, in each of the other four events, PVS placed two of its three entrants on the podium.
The girls were paced by Amy Lamb with 11 points (a 1st place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.41 seconds) and Courtney Watts (a second place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.08). For the meet, Courtney Watts scored 53 points for the PVS team. Other age group leaders were: Madison Gupton (15 – 18, 36 points), Catherine Purnell (13 – 14, 44 points), and Aris Runnels (11 –12, 16 points).
The boys were led by Ashton Sun with 8 points (a 3rd place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05:55) and Samir Elkassem with 6 points (a 5th place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.41 seconds). For the meet, Bryan Kim scored 30 points for the PVS team. Other age group leaders were: Shane Morison (15 – 18, 35 points), Henry Radzikowski (13 – 14, 32 points), and Eamon Smith (11 – 12, 28 points).
Overall, the combined PVS team finished in third place. (Metro LCS – 1580 points, Allegheny Mountain LCS – 1330.5 points, PVS LCS – 1174.5 points).
