GoSwim Video of the Week: Starts – Pointed Toes
By USA Swimming / GoSwim.
We’ve covered this before, but why not revisit!
Why do it:
Cleaning up the feet during a start is as important as entering with streamline hands.
How to do it:
1 – First… make sure you have DEEP water for this exercise.
2 – JUMP straight up from the block and get into your best streamline.
3 – Enter the water as straight as possible, piercing the water with your toes.
4 – After a few, go directly to the blocks and dive in, focusing all your attention on pointing the toes on entry.
How to do it really well (the fine points):
Watch the SIGNATURE of your entry. Do you create a single circle, or a big oval after you get through the surface. By making sure the feet follow through the same hole in the water that the hands went through is your goal. If you leave a big splash, you may be scraping off some important velocity as you enter… so… go jump some more!
