Dominating Rio Moment: Katie Ledecky
By USA Swimming.
There was no more dominant athlete at the Rio Olympics than Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, MD; Stanford University) in the pool. Already being called by some as the best female swimmer ever, the 19-year old capped her jaw-dropping performances by becoming the most decorated American female in a single Olympics with four gold and a silver. In sweeping the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle events, she was the first swimmer to hit the trifecta since 1968. Ledecky dropped her world record bests by 2 seconds in the 400m and 800m races, with an unprecedented 11+ second margin of victory in the 800m.
