Montgomery County High Schools- at a glance
By: Reach for the Wall Staff and Guest Contributor Jason Blanken
The first weekend of meets for the Montgomery County public schools took place December 8th as teams embarked on their quest for the podium at the Metro, Region and State meets held in February. The Churchill boys, reigning champs at Metros (the first public school to win since 2000), Region (4A3A), and State (4A3A) picked up where they left off last year with a comfortable win over Walter Johnson (2nd in the Region and 3rd at States last year). On the girls side, last year’s Metro, Region (4A3A) and State (4A3A) champ, Sherwood bested Poolesville (who was last year’s 3A2A1A Region and State champ) by almost 100 points.
As a refresher of who is defending what Championship, here’s the top 3 teams for each of the Metro/Regional/State championship meets we followed last year in order of when the meet was swum:

Thanks to B-CC head coach, Jason Blanken, for providing the the top times from each division and overall top times list. With the first week results, we tallied the number of top 10 swims for each school and for the boys, Churchill and Richard Montgomery both have 16 top 10 swims, followed by Walter Johnson (10), Blair (8) and Whitman(7). The girls list has Sherwood with 14 top 10 swims, followed by Churchill(13), Richard Montgomery (7) and Magruder, Wootton, and Walter Johnson each with 5. We look forward to publishing the weekly results and top times list as the season progresses. Also, send us an email: operations@reachforthewall.org or tweet: @rftwdmv to report any and all good news!
Michael Heath and Gabriel Fouts are sophomores not freshmen. There may be more.
Thanks! The data is received/displayed as teams have entered for the dual meets. Hopefully coaches will make adjustments as the season progresses – they’ll have to get it right for the championship meets
Thank you Tsa for that extraordinarily useful comment.
