By Reach for the Wall Staff

Tuesday March 10, University of Maryland Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs,Warren Kelly, released a statement:

“This is confirm that the University is directing that events scheduled from now through April 5, 2020, should be canceled. This is due to the quickly evolving situation surrounding the spread of Coronavirus and the need to immediately terminate any events that could enable further spread. The University will revisit this direction for the period following April 5 shortly.”

PVS was scheduled to hold the annual 14 & Under Junior Olympic Championships (JO’s) at the facility starting March 12th through March 15th. Currently the PVS website is showing the meet is canceled.

Update 3/10, 5pm:

” Due to the quickly evolving situation surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, The University of Maryland and University Recreation & Wellness have made the decision to cancel the Potomac Valley 14&U Junior Olympic Championships scheduled for March 12 – 15 2020 at the Eppley Recreation Center. This decision was not made lightly as we understand the effect it will have on the athletes, coaches, parents, officials and administrators who have been training and planning for this event over the past many months. In the interest of reducing further spread of the virus, we are taking this extraordinary step to protect our constituents. We will continue to monitor the situation and will work with Potomac Valley Swimming if the possibility of rescheduling this event is feasible in the future. Please refer any questions to Natalie Taylor (njft85@umd.edu), Aquatics Director or Tim Husson (tim.husson@gmail.com) general Chair of Potomac Valley Swimming. “
