Olympic Trials: Day 5

Thursday’s events that had swimmers from the DMV included the Women’s 100 Freestyle Prelims & Semis, Men’s 200 Backstroke, Women’s 200 breaststroke, Men’s 200 IM Prelims & Semifinal, and the Men’s 200 Breaststroke Final. Andrew Wilson (Georgia/NCAP) carried the momentum from his semifinal swim into the final heat of the Men’s 200 Breaststroke. He was out fast and traded lead position throughout the race with Daniel Roy and Nic Fink. He touched 3rd at the 150, then posted the 2nd fastest final 50 (behind Nic Fink) and hot the wall 2nd overall in 2:08.32, holding off the charging Will Licon (2:08.50) securing his second event on the Olympic team.

The Women’s 100 Freestyle Semifinals was next, with Torri Huske (AAC) holding the 12th position from Prelims. She swam in the 1st heat, pitted against veterans Olivia Smoliga, Natalie Hinds and Simone Manuel. Torri set herself up for a great result, hitting the wall 2nd at the 50, just .34 off the lead, however at the finish, got her hand on the wall in 5th, in a time of 54.18, which ended up being .03 shy of 8th place and a spot in Finals. The graphic below shows how close it was from 6th- 10th in the Semifinal race. Way to go Torri!

In the women’s 200 Breaststroke, Anna Keating (MACH) progressed out of Prelims into the Semifinals, holding the 9th seed with a time of 2:28.65. Anna swam in the 2nd heat, competing against Lily King, Annie Lazor and Bethany Galat. Anna settled into her race, touching the wall 2nd at the 50, and 4th at the 150, each split ahead of her morning swim and touched the wall 5th in the heat and 11th overall in 2:27.87.

In the last event of the night, Andrew Seliskar (CAL/NCAP) competed in the 2nd Semifinal heat of the Men’s 200 IM. Michael Andrew set the pace in that heat for all others to chase, as he was out in the first 150 well under world record pace. Seliskar held tight in third throughout the 150 and touched the wall in 4th, with a time of 1:58.92, good enough to qualify 7th for the Final tonight!
