USA Swimming Nationals Day 2
By Reach for the Wall Staff
Indianapolis, IN June 27-July 1
If the first night of finals is an indicator for how the rest of the meet will go, buckle up, it’s gonna be a fast ride! Regan Smith led the night off with a win in the Women’s 200 Butterfly, touching in 2:05.79, a bit off the 2:03.87 she posted in early June, but still almost 2 seconds clear of the field. Abby Harter (UVA/NCAP) got a 2nd swim, placing 16th overall with a 2:12.55. Eleanor Sun (NCAP) placed 27th, dropping 1.37 from her prelim swim and posting her best time 2:12.75! Carson Foster and Thomas Heilman thrilled the crowd in the Men’s 200 Butterfly, taking the top two spots in 1:54.32 and 1:54.54. Heilman’s swim broke the 15-16 record formerly held by Michael Phelps.
