Rockville, MD- The 51st annual Montgomery County Swim League ( MCSL) Coaches Invitational Long Course mid-summer classic was almost a washout, but with some good fortune, the skies cleared around 6:30pm and the meet was held. Perseverance paid off as the swimmers set forth and established 4 new meet records- all in the ‘back half’ of the meet! The records started falling with the Girls 8 & Under 50 Breaststroke, where Stevarra White (Stonegate) bested her teammate Olivia Cofield for the top spot in 45.04 to dip under the prior record (45.29) held by Emma Zhang set in 2024. It’s notable that Olivia and Stevarra have battled each week in the 25 breaststroke, where earlier Olivia set the MCSL record at 20.50, and just this week, Stevarra lowered it to 20.09!!
Brian Sunjaya (Arora Hills) set a new 11-12 record 1:11.97, blasting by the prior record held by Jason Hernandez-Fuentes in 2017 (1:13.56). That time ranks Brian as the #3 top time in the US this year for 11-12 yr olds! Brian also holds the 50 meter record, setting the standard of 32.44 back in June!
Luc Dionne (Old Georgetown) swam the fastest 4 lengths of breaststroke at this meet- 2:16.80, surpassing the record set last year by Joe Umhofer (2:17.19). That time ranks Luc as the #2 top time in the US this year for 16 yr olds!
Sara Young (Rockville) set the next very impressive record, besting the standard set by Phoebe Bacon in the 11-12 100 Butterfly. Sarah touched the wall in 1:04.95, well ahead of the prior record of 1:06.34. Sara’s swim places her atop the leaderboard in the US as the #1 time in the country! Here’s the recap of the IM races and pictures. There will be subsequent posts to highlight the other events and swimmers!
