ROCHESTER – The 2016 Eastern Zone Short Course Age Group Championships (Zones) began Thursday at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, New York.
The 10 and under swimmers on the Potomac Valley (PVS) team had a good showing on the first day of competition. Of the nine individual events swum in the first session for this age group, all three PVS entrants in five of those nine events made the podium (i.e., top ten finishers make the podium).
The girls were led by Courtney Watts with 24 points (three individual 3rd place finishes) and Amy Lamb with 18 points (two individual 2nd place finishes). The boys were led by Bryan Kim with 14 points (a 2nd place finish and a 6th place finish) and Fletcher Bautz with 11 points (a 4th place finish and a 7th place finish).
The session ended with the boys’ 400 yard freestyle relay team taking 3rd place and the girls’ 200 yard freestyle relay team coming back in a thrilling race to take 2nd place.
Overall, the combined PVS team is in third place after the first day of competition. (Metro LCS – 506.5 points, Allegheny Mountain LCS – 429.5 points, PVS LCS – 414 points)
