2016 Eastern Zone Long Course Championship – Day 2

After Day 2, the PVS Zone team has increased their lead with a total of 962.5 points to Metropolitan Swimming’s 696.5 points. Virginia Swimming, Inc. has moved down to third with 696 points.

The 10 and under members of the PVS Zone team continued to rack up their share of the points on day 2 of the meet. The girls are led by Courtney Watts (22 points), who earned another first place, this time in the 100 meter Backstroke. Hailey Brown is next with 12 points, and Angelina Sagaow has 10 points. On the boys’ side, Michael Mullen leads the age group with 33 points, having earned two more first places today in the 200 meter Freestyle and the 50 meter Butterfly. Adriano Arioti is next in the age group with 21 points, and Samir Elkassem has earned 15 points. After a successful session, the kids were off to take a well-deserved break with some bowling at a local alley.

While the overall depth of the boys 15-18 age group continues to be a strength for the team, it should be pointed out that the boys 11-12 age group is the only one with three swimmers that have each scored more than 20 points already: Liam Redman (48), Cole Greenberg (29), and Andrew Blusiewicz (24).

The following swimmers reached two event finals on the second night of the meet. These swimmers should also be commended for swimming on their respective medley relay teams in addition to their individual finals.

• Cole Greenberg: Boys 11 – 12 100 meter Backstroke, 200 meter Freestyle
• Liam Redman: Boys 11 – 12 100 meter Backstroke, 200 meter Freestyle
• Abby Carr: Girls 13 – 14 200 meter backstroke, 400 meter Individual Medley
• Jack Moore: Boys 13 – 14 200 meter Freestyle, 400 meter Individual Medley
• Danny Calder: Boys 15 – 18 200 meter Freestyle, 400 meter Individual Medley

The second night of finals saw many exciting races. Aris Runnels (age 12) was out-touched in the Girls 11 – 12 50 meter Butterfly, while dropping 1.33 seconds from her prelims time to finish at 28.87 seconds. And, in the final race of the night, the Boys 15 – 18 400 meter Medley Relay, both the PVS A and B teams game the Alleghany Mountain A team a run for their money. Unfortunately, the PVS teams touched the wall at second and third, respectively.

• Justin Singletary: Boys 11 – 12 50 meter Butterfly
• Liam Redman (Backstroke), Johnny Bradshaw (Breaststroke), Justin Singletary (Butterfly), and Cole Greenberg (Freestyle): Boys 11 – 12 400 meter Medley Relay

After two days of competition, Liam Redman leads all PVS scorers with 48 points, having reached the finals in all of his events. Other high scoring boys are: Jack Moore (age 14) with 23 points and Danny Calder (age 15) with 21 points. Notable high scorers on the girls’ side include: Jill Berger (age 12) with 20 points and Abby Carr (age 13) with 19 points.
