Are Jolyn Swimsuits Legal?

By Reach for the Wall staff.

We hear lots (and lots) of questions about the legality of using a Jolyn tie-back swimsuit in PVS, summer league and high school swim meets.  To help clarify the issue, here is a memo from Jim Holcomb, Chair of the National Officials Committee of USA Swimming, regarding the use of tie-back suits in competition.  In short, no fastening system (e.g., tie-backs, zippers, etc.) are allowed in competitive swimming in order to minimize the chance of, uh, a wardrobe failure during a race.  Wise rule.

The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL), Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) and various school systems in our region follow USA Swimming rules with regard to eligible swimsuits for competition.
