Interns, We Want Interns!
Reach for the Wall is seeking a group of interns interested in enhancing their journalism skills, publishing articles under their own names, and garnering valuable experience to add to their resumes. This position is unpaid, but you will earn experience, have the opportunity to publish your own articles, and if still in school, SSL hours. We are seeking rising seniors, recent graduates, and those out of school with a passion for writing and photojournalism to report on various aspects of the local swim community (i.e., PVS, high school, summer league and Masters swimming) as well as diving, water polo and other aquatic sports. This internship will be conducted via email, teleconference and online tools — all work can be done remotely.
The Reach for the Wall interns will submit stories weekly/bi-weekly and delve into feature writing, race analysis, training studies and event coverage. Our intent is for the interns to significantly improve our ability to cover swimming and other aquatic events across the area during the high school, club and summer league competition season!
If you are interested in gaining exposure and journalism experience this season (October-May), please submit the following to: operations@reachforthewall.org by Friday, September 8:
- RFTW Intern as the subject line;
- A brief bio including name, education, swimming experience, journalism experience, and any experience with internet related marketing, social media, blog and/or WordPress mediums;
- Ability to travel to swimming venues located in DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia (DMV); and
- A writing sample. This may be an analysis piece, a feature story, or a training-specific article. Please shoot for between 400 and 600 words.
Students taking sports writing classes at high schools and middle schools are welcome to apply.
If you haven’t already, you may want to send this to the Montgomery Blair CAP (Communication Arts Program). It would be right up their alley!
