By: Reach for the Wall Staff

This past weekend, the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association held the regional championship meets at various sites across the area. With many of the swimmers competed in the Metro Championship meet a week prior, the competition for the team titles were fierce, but the times were a bit off from their best. Next up for the MPSSAA schools is the States meet. In each region, the swimmers advance from each of the Championship swim meets in the following ways:

  • The top 3 male and female swimmers in each event
  • The top 3 relay teams in each relay event
  • The individual competitors or relay teams who, in their Region Championship Meet, are among the top 12 statewide times (excluding the automatic qualifiers above).

The State meet will be held on Saturday, February 23, at the University of Maryland College Park (Eppley Recreation Center) – see here for more information:

Psych Sheets:

Last year’s champions in the 4A3A meet were Churchill for the boys, and Sherwood for the Girls. Looking at results from Metros and Regions, Churchill looks strong to repeat, while B-CC looks to dethrone Sherwood.

Last year, the 3A2A1A Boys and Girls championship was captured by Poolesville and there is no reason to believe they are not poised to repeat, but look to Damascus for their closest competition.
