NCAP’s Erin Gemmell finishes 2nd in 200 Free at Mare Nostrum

May 26, 2022 Barcelona, Spain- Erin Gemmell of Nation’s Capital competed in the 200 Freestyle finals today and captured the silver medal! She came into the finals as the 2nd seed after posting a 1:59.54 in prelims, just .15 behind the top seed Freya Anderson (British Swimming). In the final heat, Erin turned at the 100 ahead of the field in 57.51, leading Anderson by .03. Anderson powered through the final 100 and touched first in 1:57.33 to Erin’s 1:58.26.

Earlier in the meet, Erin competed in the Women’s 50 Freestyle where she placed 31st with a time of 26.27. In the 1st day of swimming, she finished tied for 9th in the prelims of the 100 Freestyle, swimming a 55.69. A swim off was necessary and she went on to win the swim off in 55.33, just .08 off her lifetime best of 55.25. The swim off win provided her the opportunity to compete in the finals session due to a scratched swimmer. In finals, Erin swam 55.62 to capture 8th. In the 200 IM she swam to 20th place in a time of 2:18.03, just off her entry time of 2:16.40.
The next stop for Erin is France where the meet will be competed in Canet-En-Roussillon May 28-29. She is slated to compete in the 50, 100, 200, 400 Freestyle events as well as the 200 IM. You can follow the action live online via the following link:
