MCSL Movers in Week 2

By Reach for the Wall Staff.

Week 2 of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) season brought competitiveness out of a lot of swimmers, and it helped that the rain that was forecasted never came and the swimmers enjoyed the warm sunny day!

Carly Sebring

Top to bottom within MCSL, swimmers improved their times and standings. There was a 33% increase in All Star nominating times, with almost 2,400 swims and top times were swum in 32 0f the 50 events. In the first 11 events, the top swimmer remained the same as in week:  Carly Sebring (Damascus) gave the 12 & Under 100 IM MCSL record a scare by swimming 1:07.86, just 0.34 seconds off the standard.  Brett Feyerick (Tallyho) showed he is within striking distance of the 13-14 50 Freestyle record, as his 24.54 is 0.13 seconds off of Jack Conger’s record from 2009.  With that momentum, Feyerick did go on to break 2 MCSL records: the Boys 13-14 100 IM (59.88) and 50 Backstroke (26.99).  The IM swim is the first time a 13-14 has broken the 1:00 barrier! With 5 meets (including All Stars), Brett has some opportunities to go even lower.

Brett Feyerick

Sammie Grant (Daleview) took over the top spot in the 15-18 100 Freestyle, going under 1:00, with a 59.95.  In the girls 8 & Under backstroke, Anabel Sha (Rockville) took over the top spot by dropping over a second from Week 1. Matthew Hirschberger (Tallyho) made his debut at #1 in the 15-18 100 Backstroke with a 58.91, and in the Girls race, Celine Nugent (Tilden Woods) also ascended to the top with a 1:07.82.  Eli Fouts (Quince Orchard) took over the top spot in the Boys 15-18 100 IM with a 59.94, and Jaycee Yegher (Darnestown) topped the girls 100 IM with a 1:06.77.  Aleah Lacson (Quail Valley) swam the top time in the 8 & Under girls 25 Breaststroke with a 22.78, almost a 2.5 second drop from week 1!  Joyce Wu (King Farm) bettered her time from week 1 of 35.22 and broke the Girls 11-12 50m Breaststroke with a time of 35.03!  Jason Hernandez-Fuentes (Stonegate) swam the 50 Breaststroke for the first time and is now almost 2 seconds clear of the field.

Fouts and Yegher also took top spots in their Breaststroke events, with Eli going a speedy 1:05.37 and Jaycee swimming 1:13.53.  In the Boys 8 & Under 25 Butterfly Kirk Morgan (Seven Locks) is creeping close to breaking the 16 second barrier with a 16.25. Robert Shively (River Falls), Sebring, Feyerick, Phoebe Bacon (Tallyho) and Hannah Kannan (Bethesda) all improved their times from week 1, with Hannah taking over the top spot for the 15-18 50 Butterfly.
