PVS Swimmers excel at USA Winter Nationals

By: Reach for the Wall Staff

The weekend of November 30 through December 1, swimmers from 7 clubs and two Universities within PVS descended upon Greensboro NC to compete in the USA Swimming Winter Nationals. NCAP captured the Women’s and team title while RMSC placed 6th in the men’s and 7th as a team and the Mason Makos finished 13th.

In the women’s standings, Arlington Aquatic Club finished 10th, The Fish and Machine tied for 24th and York achieved 40th. AAC, Fish, Machine and York were not included in the Combined standings as they only had Women swimming.  Since the Fall/winter season began in September the meets have been competed in the short course (25 yards) format. Winter Nationals was competed in the long course (50 meter) format and served as the first opportunity for swimmers to attain their 2020 Olympic Trial cuts. According to SwimSwam, 192 cuts were achieved by 62 women and 49 men, here’s who made cuts and in parentheses how many,  from PVS:

Phoebe Bacon(4), Sean Conway (1), Madelyn Donohue (1), Torri Huske (4), Anna Keating (2), Katie Ledecky (4), Katie Mack (1), Paige McKenna (2) Chase Travis (3), and  Ryan Vipavetz (2)

Doing the math, that’s 24 cuts of the 192 or ~12.5% of the total- way to go!!!
