MCPS Top times report week of 1/5

The swimmers certainly didn’t show any letdown from the 2-week layoff as they roared back into competition over the weekend. The girls swam 35 (of 80 available) top 10 times this past weekend, while the boys had 34. The meet scores weren’t that close, with the exception of the Paint Branch vs. Kennedy girls being decided by 3 points, with Kennedy capturing the victory. The team competitions did not dampen the spirit on the individual races, as there were plenty of close races. The boys 100 butterfly race between Alan Li from Blair, (50.93) and Chris Ma from Richard Montgomery (50.94) not only was decided by .01 but their times would have placed 4th and 5th in last year’s Metros meet! Also impressive was the boys 100 breaststroke race between Timmy Ellett from Walter Johnson (58.60) and Will Tenpas from BCC (59.82). These swims were faster than the two swam in last years Metros and would have placed 6th and 10th, which funny enough was exactly where the pair placed last year (at Metros)…

The race between Jane Umhofer from Walter Johnson, (1:56.63) and Kate Hallmark from BCC, (1:56.65) in the girls 200 freestyle may have inspired the lady Barons from BCC for the remainder of the meet as they won every other event en route to a commanding 116-69 team win. In Quince Orchard’s win over Northwest, the girls 500 freestyle was won by Emily Mann from Quince Orchard (5:22.43) where she touched out
Kylie Morissette from Northwest (5:22.75). Quince Orchard won the meet 105-80, in large part due to the efforts of Catherine and Anastasia Belyakov, who along with Emily Mann swept their individual events and two of the three relays.

In the girls rankings, freshman Carly Sebring from Damascus showed her diversity by swimming the top times in the 100 back (57.95) and 100 fly (56.26). The 100 fly time would have placed 6th at last years Metros. Carly now holds the top times in the 50 Freestyle, 200 IM, 100 Backstroke, 100 Butterfly and is 6th in the 100 Breaststroke.

In the team tally, the BCC girls have tied Sherwood with 13 swims in the top 10, Churchill has 9, followed by Quince Orchard with 8. Churchill is still leading the boys with 17, Richard Montgomery with 13, Blair and Walter Johnson are next closest with 9 each.
