VHSL Northern Region titles up for grabs

By Reach for the Wall staff

Last weekend, many of the schools in Northern Virginia swam their regional meets (Region 6C, Region 6B) and solidified their standing heading into States next weekend. The Northern Region meet started yesterday with diving, as the following schools: Centreville, Chantilly, George Marshall, Herndon, James Madison, Langley, Oakton, Wakefield, Washington-Liberty, Westfield, Yorktown are not only competing for the Northern Region title but also for last-minute qualifiers for States(qualifying times below).

Last year, we saw a fierce battle between the Girls from Madison and Yorktown, and the Boys from Madison and Oakton, with Madison coming away with a 3.5 point victory in the Girls meet and Oakton prevailing by 2.5 points in the Boys competition. In the District meets held at the end of January, the Yorktown Girls and Langley Boys were victorious in the Liberty District and the Madison Girls (4th consecutive) and Oakton Boys (3rd Consecutive) were victorious in the Concorde District. However, those results are bygone as we expect the coaches from Madison, Yorktown and Oakton to get their teams extra pumped-up for head-to-head competition. Just last week, we attended the Metro Championships, where the team competition motivated individual swimmers to amazing performances, including Phoebe Bacon’s National record in the 100 Backstroke. We expect the teams and swimmers in Northern Virginia will raise their game (against each other) and will look for National leading, if not National Record performances.

The Diving competition took place last night & we found the results via Madison’s Twitter account (Thanks for posting!!!):
