OCCS 13 & Over Meet of Champions: Thursday

Thursday’s events consisted of the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle and 400 IM and the finals sessions were split by age category, with the 13 & 14’s swimming at 5pm and the 15 & overs competing at 7:30. There were a slew of best times achieved starting with the Girls 13-14 100 Breast, where Clara Condon dropped 2.2 seconds from her prior best to win the event in 1:09.69. The Boys 13-14 race was won by Owen Hoban in 1:01.35, but was a bit off his previous best. The Girls 15 & Over race was won by Sophia Heilen in 1:04.76, who dropped 1.12 seconds from her prior best. The Boys 15 & Over Breast saw a battle between Dawson Truong and Aiden Grady. Aiden had the lead at the 50 turn, but Dawson came home strong, out touching Aiden 56.12 to 56.17, both boys setting new personal best times.
The 200 Freestyle races kicked off with the 13-14 Girls and the top 4 finishers within 1.3 seconds of each other. Rachel Conley touched first in 1:59.70, followed by Lily Von Herbulis 2:00.16, Yalguun Baterdene 2:00.56 and Scarlett Gray 2:01.00, each achieving personal best times. In the Boys 13-14 race, Aiden Grendysz took the win with a 1:51.56, followed by AJ Friend 1:53.22 and Nick Chierico 1:53.83. In the Girls 15 & Over race, Alyssa Martel and Sienna Golembiewski pushed each other throughout, with Alyssa touching first in 1:52.53, achieving a personal best time by 1.28 seconds. The 15 & Over Boys race was swift, with Jack Mowery besting the field by 6.09 seconds, just off his lifetime best.
The last event of the night was the 400 IM The Girls 13-14 race went to Danielle Hughes who dropped 5.02 seconds from her lifetime best to win in 4:41.62. Daniel Brown won the Boys race, finishing in 4:25.97, also dropping more than 5 seconds from his personal best. The 15 & Over Girls race saw Abby Daniel swim away from the field, winning in 4:23.29, a best time by 2.93 seconds and 11 seconds ahead of 2nd place Annaleagh Stahl. The last race of the night Stephen Gilbert was a bit off his best time, but well ahead of the field as he touched first in 4:05.36.
We were reminded by a frequent contributor, Brenten Gilbert, that results from this meet can and will be submitted to USA Swimming to count toward the 18 & Under Winter Championship. He did a quick analysis of the psych sheet and pulled out the following swimmers and events that are eligible to submit times:

In case you missed our post yesterday, OCCS is streaming the meet on their YouTube Page, each session getting streamed separately. We watched a few events today & were impressed by the quality of the stream and innovation they’ve implemented:
As you can see from the screenshot, the event & heat are listed in the top left corner, the event title and running time in the top right corner, then a list of the swimmers by lane (including running time) in the bottom left corner. All of this as well as providing the full view of the pool! Kudos to the meet manager and video team!
