Olympic Trials Wave I: Day 2 Results, Day 3 Preview

By Reach for the Wall Staff

Last night’s final session was a bit unique for a Championship level meet in that there were a few events that didn’t have the maximum number of participants- the Men’s 200 Freestyle only had 10 swimmers, with 2 competing in the B Final. The other event was the Women’s 400 IM, where only 6 of 8 spots were filled in the B Final. PVS swimmers competed in the Men’s 100 breaststroke and Women’s 400 IM. Three swimmers made the A-Final of the Men’s 100 Breaststroke: Eli Fouts (Wisconsin/RMSC), Jakob Frick (NCAP) and Jake Ball (TANK). Eli Fouts took the race out fast, touching the wall at the 50 in 28.56, .41 seconds ahead of the field. He held that lead through approximately 80 meters, then the field came back. Eli got his hands on the wall 5th with a time of 1:02.65, which was a bit off his prelim swim, but still better than his entry time. Jakob Frick (NCAP) finished 6th, touching in 1:02.68, just a bit off his prelim swim. Jake Ball (TANK) qualified in the 8th position, and finished 8th in the Final. His time of 1:03.07 was a bit off his prelim swim, but faster than his entry time. Congratulations!!

Eleanor Sun (NCAP) competed in the B Final of the 400 IM and battled a young and talented field. Eleanor held the lead through the butterfly leg, and 2nd through breaststroke. She finished the race placing 4th in 4:52.12, just a bit off her best time.
